LaTrent Demonte Jackson, 18, of Greenville Drive, Natchitoches, was arrested Wednesday night, becoming the third suspect charged in connection with contaminating milk that two 3-year-olds drank at a school in Natchitoches Parish, officials reported today.

Carlyss- Ralph Wayne Axtle, 75, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, in a local hospital. He was a native of Alexandria and had been a resident of the Sulphur area since 1958. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in Perpetual Adoration. He was a U.S. Marines veteran, having served in the Korean War. Ralph started his education career teaching at Frasch Elementary and later served as Principal of Vincent Settlement Elementary and D.S. Perkins Elementary Schools where he retired 20 years ago. He enjoyed spending his free time deer hunting. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gwen Axtle of Carlyss; one daughter, Karen Tyler and husband, Dennis of Houston, Texas; two sons, James Brian Axtle of LaPorte, Texas and Douglas Wayne Axtle and wife, Carol of Broomfield, Colorado; one sister, Barbara Brook of Alexandria; and four grandchildren, Richard Axtle, Brijette Ray, Garrett Axtle, and Grace Axtle. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss. The Rev. Thomas Vellappallil will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Sunday with a wake service and rosary beginning at 6 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4822 Carlyss Drive, Sulphur, LA 70665. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.
